Oral Cancer Screening
The oral cancer screening process begins with an intraoral exam. The tissues examined are the tongue, lip, floor of mouth, cheeks,
gum tissue, and palate. The clinician is looking for red, white or red and white lesions. These lesions can be raised, flat, ulcerated, or rough
in appearance. The oral cancer screening and exam would also include an extra-oral exam of the head and neck tissues including the lymph nodes.
Your dentist can perform the oral cancer screening and exam. The exam can take 5 - 10 minutes when the additional technology is utilized.
The cost of an oral cancer screening varies from $35 - $90 for the initial screening. Some insurance carriers offer benefits to cover this cost.
